Hunza river, Pakistan: how SAFER contributes to disaster preparedness

On 4th January 2010, a landslide occurred in the Hunza Valley of Northern Pakistan.The initial disaster buried the village of Attabad, destroying 26 homes and killing 20 people. On 10th March 2010, the SAFER response service was activated via MapAction and Infoterra Ltd. to provide hydrological expertise by analysing the danger of a potential flood breach through the dam created by the landslide at Attabad, based on Earth observation and elevation data.
