Xynthia, the most violent storm to hit France since 1999, landed on the Atlantic coast the night of Saturday the 27th to Sunday the 28th of February before making its way to the English Channel and the North sea. The 1st of March an initial assessment is of 53 dead and 300 wounded in the Vendée and Charente-Maritime.
